What to Watch | Week 17/08/23

After a rollercoaster first week we’re back with more What To Watch recommendations. If you watched all of last weeks matches then you would have witnessed 16 goals across 5 games, not bad pickings!

Saturday 19th: Tottenham v Manchester United

The spotlight will be on Tottenham’s performance – was their struggle due to first game nerves or the absence of Kane? Nonetheless Maddison was the man to step up and contribute with two assists against a tricky Brentford side.

Meanwhile, United secured a 1-0 victory over Wolves, although the latter looked the better side and produced an impressive 23 shots! Controversy struck when Wolves were denied a clear late penalty, leaving United fans buzzing with the outcome.

With both teams part of the traditional top 6, this fixture was always going to make my list. I’m looking forward to the Midfield battle and goalless shoot-out between the non-firing Son & Rashford.

Saturday 19th: Manchester City v Newcastle United

Book out your Saturday afternoon and get the beers in as we shift our focus to Manchester City taking on league leaders Newcastle.

Newcastle flew out of the blocks in their opening game, displaying a controlled and mature performance, making Aston Villa look average. Similarly, City cruised to a comfortable 3-0 over Burnley, a performance fitting of champions.

Recalling last season’s encounter, City won 2-0 at home but drew 3-3 in the reverse. With Newcastle’s strengthened lineup and improved style of play a potential upset or exciting match surely awaits.

Don’t overlook the Haaland factor, this goal scoring machine can find the net on a swivel! Whilst he’s had some quiet moments in big games, predicting the outcome here is anyone’s guess.

Sunday 20th: Spain Women v England Women

The excitement continues on Sunday with the World cup final between Spain and England Women. The Lionesses are on the rise and you might just witness history! Get ready to cheer on the England ladies as they take on a formidable Spanish team.

Both teams progressed through challenging semi-final fixtures, showcasing their ability to score clutch goals. Despite a stunning Sam Kerr Wonder strike, England beat the host nation and favourites.

I originally had Sweden winning the tournament but after the Spain win who knows!

Monday 21st: Crystal Palace v Arsenal

On Monday night we’re treated to a London Derby as Crystal Palace host the Gunners. Both teams are riding high and are eager to maintain their momentum.

Last season saw Arsenal do the double over Palace. Arsenal’s squad has strengthened since, while the loss of star player Zaha could negatively impact Palace’s. Expect a fiery match filled with goals, whether it’s an end-to-end shootout or a dominant Arsenal performance.
