Apologies in advance to all fans of lower league football but the English Premier League is back! After a long bleak summer football is back with a bang 💥
Friday 11th Burnley v Manchester City
What better way is there to finish the week. Head to the pub for some post-work beers then tune into Friday night football to get the season underway.
Will the student become the master or does Kompany still have some Guardiola shaped lessons to learn. Both of the league winning sides will battle it out in the first game which I see going one of two ways.
- City explode and start the season off with a thrashing
- Burnley show us what they were doing all year in the Championship and how tough Turf Moor will be for everyone in the league.
The last time the teams met wasn’t long ago where City were triumphant in a 6-0 FA Cup quarterfinal thumping, can we expect the same or could a slow start cost City points.
Tune in Friday @ 20:00(BST) on Sky Sports Premier League
Saturday 12th Newcastle v Aston Villa
A Saturday late kick off to wet your appetite. Two sides who exceeded their expectations last year but won’t look out of place in their respective European competitions.
Howe v Emery is a clash of two of the best managers in the league. The way they have shaped and built their teams is nothing short if extraordinary. I’m expecting a firey affair which could easily go either way.
The teams met only a month ago for a 6-goal thriller in the Premier League Summer Series, let’s hope its more of the same!
Tune in on Saturday @ 17:30(BST) on Sky Sports Premier League
Saturday 12th England Women v Colombia Women
Fresh off a lucky result and penalty win against Nigeria, The Lionesses take on Colombia in the Women’s World Cup quarter final.
We’ve got to back our ladies haven’t we?! If you tuned in for the last match you witnessed a scruffy performance but a winning performance nonetheless. England are without the spark of Lauren James for 2 games so they’ll have to find a way of scoring without her. We’re yet to find out how big of an impact that silly stamp had.
Make no mistake Colombia won’t be an easy match, this passionate team topped their group, beating Germany and most recently Jamaica on the way. If England start slowly here they might find themselves having to score a couple to get back into the game.
Tune in on Saturday @ 11:30(BST) on ITV 1
Sunday 13th Chelsea V Liverpool
You’ve just had a lovely roast dinner, your belly is full, the kids are quiet and you’ve got 90 minutes to watch a Super Sunday corker!
Newly appointed Pochetino faces a tough test against Klopp’s side. Both teams have done a bit of rebuilding off the back of poor seasons so this is a game to really start the season strong.
Poch’s record against Klopp isn’t pretty reading, only 1 win in 11 matches! Maybe the backing of the Bridge can make a difference. Due to his attacking style and Liverpools directness i’m expecting an exciting game. (Despite their last 4 matches being goalless)
Tune in Sunday at 16:30(BST) on Sky Sports Premier League
Wednesday 16th Manchester City v Sevilla
Midweek football in August you say? The Super cup says damn right! The treble winning Champions league winners take on the 7 time Europa league winners.
Finish your hump-day with a battle between two formidable sides. Can City make it a Quadruple? Or can Sevilla win yet another European final.
Tune in on Wednesday @ 20:00(BST) on TNT sports 1
